Our Mission

Providing at-risk equines, a safe and forever home while offering the opportunity for children and adults to have a safe place to gain valuable life-skills and support through horsemanship education.

To impart the infrastructure, land and resources to provide a herd of 10 to 15 at-risk-of-slaughter horses a safe and long-term home. To also have in place the structure to educate humans in horsemanship and advocacy.

Our Vision

Our Values

To keep horses in the most natural and humane way possible in order to enhance their quality of life.

  • To give a forever landing to equines which have been deemed “not useable” by the traditional horse industry.

  • To consistently learn new skills and methods in order support and promote others in their horsemanship journey.

  • To evaluate if any of the sanctuary herd of equines would be able to and enjoy helping to teach adults or children horsemanship through groundwork and equine husbandry education.

  • To know that and have compassion for horses that are unable to work with humans.

  • We welcome Donations and Volunteers, reach out on social media to inquire about volunteering with The Sanctuary at Varekai Ranch, and if you wish to Donate.

  • We are located in beautiful Central Oregon, outside of Tumalo.

  • We have just under 30 on the premises, however that includes our dedication to having anywhere between 10-15 rescue horses that call our ranch their forever-home.
