A safe space for equines and the humans that want to learn from them.

The Sanctuary at Varekai Ranch provides at-risk equines with a safe and forever home. We also offer the opportunity for children and adults to have a safe place to gain valuable life skills and support through horsemanship education.

    • To keep horses in the most natural and humane way possible in order to enhance their quality of life.

    • To give a forever landing to equines which have been deemed “not useable” by the traditional horse industry.

    • To consistently learn new skills and methods in order support and promote others in their horsemanship journey.

    • To evaluate if any of the sanctuary herd of equines would be able to and enjoy helping to teach adults or children horsemanship through groundwork and equine husbandry education.

    • To know that and have compassion for horses that are unable to work with humans.

  • Community: Build a community of students, volunteers, and supporters through alignment, advocacy, education, and compassion.

Partnerships: Identify at-risk equines in need of a permanent sanctuary through community partnerships — as well as work with groups, schools, and other non-profits to identify individuals who would benefit from the horsemanship education offered by The Sanctuary at Varekai Ranch.

Education: It is the responsibility of the members, students, any employees, and volunteers of The Sanctuary at Varekai Ranch to educate themselves and others about best equine practices.

Leadership: We exercise leadership in the protection of the equine and those that work with them by demonstrating knowledge, compassion, and advocacy.

Accountability: We are accountable to those we serve, including the equines.
